Exclusive - WATCH: Army Official Serves as Student’s Father in her Graduation Ceremony, The Reason why will Definitely Leave you in Tears!

An Army official went with Hafra Macadatar when she received her elementary diploma during her graduation ceremony in Palumpi Integrated School in Lamboyong, Sultan Kuldarat. Her parents were unable to attend her academic celebration as her father died in a battle and her mother works as an overseas employee.

Hafra’s father was a soldier who was slain by alleged members of Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters. Because of the incident. Lt. Cor. Harold Cabunoc decided to march with her during her graduation rites.

“Isang karangalan para sa’kin na mairepresent ko ‘yung aming sundalo. Kagaya rin ng sa mga giyera, ‘di kami nag-iiwanan,” Cabunoc said in an interview with ABS-CBN News’ Francis Canlas.

When Lt. Cor. Cabunoc was awarded a special medal for having the willingness to serve as Hafra’s father in this special day, Hafra failed to hide her emotions and cried while thanking the military official.

“Nagpapasalamat ako sa kanya dahil namatay ‘yung tatay ko, siya ‘yung nagkwan sa’kin (nagsilbing ama)”

Days after Hafra’s graduation ceremony, her mother Jean Macadatar arrived in the Philippines from Kuwait. According to her, she failed to return sooner because her employer did not believe that his husband died in the Philippines. This made her miss Hafra’s elementary graduation.

“Dapat ako ‘yung nandon tsaka ‘yung tatay niya sana”, Jean said.

Although Jean missed Hafra’s important event, she remained thankful that her children would receive financial assistance and scholarship grants.
