In a phone call that was anticipated by many Filipino citizens, President Rodrigo Duterte has finally spoken with the United States of America’s President-elect Donald Trump

The Philippine leader described their conversation as “very engaging and animated.”
Christopher Go, President Duterte’s special adviser, shared the news on Friday, December 2. He also stated that the conversation lasted for 7 minutes. The transition team of the US president-elect had no immediate comment regarding the chat of the two.
President Duterte is one of the recipients of US President-elect Donald Trump’s breezy phone calls to world leaders; unnerving diplomats from his country and foreign lands. His unconventional one-on-one phone conversations were with Japanese PM Shinzo Abe, the president of Kazakhstan and a complimentary phone call with Pakistan’s leader, Nawaz Sharif.
The brief chat between the two leaders is believed to pave the way for better US-PH relations, aimed to ease tension among both countries after President Duterte’s comments on the US. Duterte also got global attention after cursing former US president Barack Obama, and pursued better alliances with China and Russia.
Al Jazeera reported that one of their sources were told by Reuters that Trump’s transition team intends to start a “clean slate” with the Philippines.
"He is perfectly capable of talking to Duterte in an open way without being wedded to previous policy failures," the source said of Trump.
Duterte congratulated Donald Trump during his speech with the Filipino community in Malaysia.
He also pointed out a similarity of them, saying that they both curse often especially in televised talks.
